    Hello all,

I bought my Acer 8530G Notebook a few months ago for the start of university. I picked it so that it could function as a desktop, whilst being able to tackle new games reasonably well. At first, it was fantastic, running games on high quality with lag only rarely. But then it began to lag immensely after about one month of me owning it. Not just in the games, but on the desktop aswell and when surfing the net. Also, sound began to crackle when I played music. It only cracked a little when using the built in speakers, however when I used earphones, the crackling rendered music unlistenable.

I began to think about what may have caused the problem. I uninstalled some of the larger programs on my computer to free up hard drive space, then got rid of additional applications that ran in the background (None that came pre-installed, mind, although they were few), then did full virus scans to check for anything malignant. The scans came up clean.
    all clear.

Even after all this, the performance is still -poor.

So I was wondering if any of you people have suggestions on what may have happened, or if the Acer 8530G has underlying problems?

    Thanks very much for reading!

    Kind Regards,

    Maxh91

What are you talking about? "The stuttering DVD drive or the lame hard disk"

    LOL!
The whole system is stuttering if its not in Direct Memory Access mode.

Its easy to check in Device Manager if you are aware of it. Its worth a check.

So you purchased it when; August, September?

So that means you are running Vista? Your system probably came with a free upgrade to Windows 7 - even if it didn't, you can probably purchase it through your university for around $30.

I would absolutely do a CLEAN INSTALL (not an upgrade installation) of Windows 7.

Vista ranges from mediocre at best to nightmare-inducing at worst.

Other than that, exactly what other programs have been installed on your system? Do you let anyone else use your computer and is it possible that they installed stuff without you knowing?

Hit your start button, then the "run" option, then type "msconfig" without the quotations. How many boxes are there in the "startup" tab and how many are checked?

If there are more than about 15 boxes total and if they are all checked, that could be a small part of the problem - that panel shows you what programs and processes start up when you boot your computer and load into memory. Obviously, the more programs you have running (usually they are hidden in the system tray in the lower right corner) the slower your system will perform.

Really though, if you have Vista currently, I'd simply set aside a few solid hours on a weekend when you don't have homework and do a clean install of 7.

In my experience, the performance difference between Vista and 7 is night and day with Vista being comparable to a tricycle and 7 being more along the lines of a corvette.

Acer continually updates drivers on their main page. These generally help with performance issues. As for fan problems, a can of air duster can go a long way. :) then there's always defragging or reformatting your hard drive. Sometimes the ol' system dump will remedy speed issues.
