    Hi,

I have just installed the 162.18 Vista 32 Drivers on my 5920G. I had first just updated the drivers via device manager. I saw in laptopvideo2go that the installation was done with the display adapter as a standard vga. I uninstalled the nvidia drivers and reinstalled as per the laptopvideo2go guide. Now my index rating for aero dropped from 4.7 to 4.6 ; gaming 5.2 to 5.1 :( . Has this happened to anyone else? The first time I just updated the drivers the index rating remained at their original levels. Anyone else had a similar experience? Should I install them in a different way?

    cheers!

I've reinstalled many times and get different readings. With Stock drivers, I usually get 5.1. With the 158.45 drivers, I get 5.3. The aero index has never moved from 4.7.

However, sometimes I use erecovery (which installs the stock display drivers) and the index rating stays at 5.3. However, with some reinstalls, it resets back to 5.1

Try reinstalling the drivers, doing a rollback first.

Just after reading your post Windows Update popped up. I installed them (10!) and for some reason re-ran the experience ratings. Aero remained at 4.6 ; but the gaming index went back to 5.2 and the disk data transfer rate increased for the first time to 4.9! :) These windows update have the same effect on yours (or anybody else's)?

what are the 158.45 drivers like?

Here is a copy of my Vista Rating... I have the 1.5ghz Best Buy model. I just had 9-windows updates automatically downloaded and installed. Can someone post there Vsta "processor" Rating for there 2.0ghz 5920G, i'm curious to know what that number is for having the 2.0ghz processor.

    >what are the 158.45 drivers like?

You will gain the ability to overclock with the 158.45, but lose the stability (just run 3DMark2001se w/158.45 and you will get stability problems in between scene changes) and will you also lose the tons of option/game menus that the 162.18 provide. IMO... The 162.18 are the best performers.

    Hi Badabing,

let me just say that between yourself, Bigspin and Klas I've learned a hell of a lot about laptops!

    here is a screenshot - I have the 2Ghz 5920G
maybe things are a bit fudged up now...I just re-ran the ratings, and the memory options have LEAPED from 4.8 to 5.8...Along with my disk transfer rate, I'm beginning to dis-trust these numbers :)

what drivers do you use for the 8600 and how do you install them?

    cheers!!

I still can't figure out how your memory (ram) reading says 5.8 , and mine reads only 4.8.... Hey.. are you running Intel Turbo Memory in that puppy... That's the only thing i can think of... unless you have more than 2gb ram installed?? or perhaps the processor speed effects the memory (ram) results as well??

Well you still love 6 year old 3DMark01 & 162.18 Drivers.....But drivers without OC function is worthless :( (162.xx /163.xx Crap  )....Most people want to OC their 8600M GT to get performance .158.45 driver is the best stable driver so far and it support more games.
You done 3DMark01 ...So I think you're going to play old games on your vista system. If you're like to play old games on your laptop you'd better try Windows XP than Vista..B'coz vista not support old games (Eg: My Fav game Mafia)

Try 158.45 Driver with modded inf. It's the only stable driver so far for Over clockers .BTW if you are not going to OC your laptop try 162.xx or 163.xx version driver like b,bing said. :D

Strange... my gaming performance seems to drop after installing 162.xx driver. Any ideas? Well I'm going to stick to my stock driver for now.

haha.... No I didn't. Maybe there is a conflict between acer power management utility and the driver?

I guess I will try again then... But it's just such a pain to install drivers. Sigh... I'm just lazy. :p
