I am thinking about installing SATA II SSD on my 4420 to replace the original hard disk. I believe the original on 4420 is SATA. Do you think I can install STAT II drive to regular SATA?

I just want to do this because my machine gives out to much heat.

Well, the SATA II interface is backward compatible with the SATA I interface, so it will run at reduced bandwidth.

You would also want to check out the SSD Sticky in the H/W Forum.

you will have no problems installing a SATA II HDD in a system that supports only SATA I transfers...

but the drive will opperate at SATA I transfer levels..

I've been reading a bit about the new Intel and OCZ Core SSDs...and man, I am getting one of those in a year or two, when the capacities are in the 200 GB range and the price is decent-ish.
I betcha Vista would just sing with an SSD behind it.

I would advise the OP to post his query once in the SSD Sticky, as I have read about users having trouble with SATA backward compatibility and Legacy IDE Mode.

And probably won't, for a long time.

(Don't go SSD, just not worth it !!)
