I'm thinking of upgrading from Vista to 7. I'm just wondering if its going to be an easy transition? Will 7 work right of out of box with the drivers that are used with Vista? Thanks

Just buy a new copy of 64bit windows and you should be able to get the drivers no.problem. You will see a good performance boost with going to 7. i know i did when i upgrades too. also if you have not all ready, upgrade your ram. cheap and easy speed boost.

My 5720z is the budget version and the ram is capped at 2GBs (cannot upgrade further). I think that the minimum required for running 64bit is 3GBs right? Could I still get compatible drivers that can work with a x86 version of 7?

There's no minimum required to run a 64bit OS. It's the other way around- 32bit OS does not address RAM above 3GB.
So you can install 64bit OS with no issues.
