Can somebody help with the process of installing XP on my 4620? The hard drive that came with the laptop has Vista on it but the drive is crapping out and I requested a new one through warranty. Since the new drive will be clean, I was wondering if all I need to do is install XP and the individual laptop drivers. Also, which drivers should I install/not install? I've read that certain drivers cause problems with XP. Any help will be appreciated!

is that laptop intel CPU or AMD?

if intel make a custom CD using the soulpass method follow the CD & INTERNET method,

don't worry about the drivers being for a different model, if they are compatible w/ your hardware than XP will use them if not XP just ignores them and doesn't even load them..

just make that CD.... then make sure your BIOS is set so the CD is first boot device and the HDD TRANSFER METHOD IS ACHI (not IDE) save changes,,, reboot... press spacebar to boot from CD and start the XP install!!

but you may want to track down an XP wifi drivers.... this link will help these drivers are newer than the stuff at acer's site

later we can always point you to other drivers after we get XP running

How do we do makes sure "HDD TRANSFER METHOD IS ACHI"? There is no such option in the BIOS that I can find.

When I last tired to install XP-P, it could not find my HD. Oh, and it is an Intel CPU.

I'm reading the other links now.....

    TIA,
    Dobermann
