I have a clean install of Vista Buisness, so that is why I am going with that. Here are my questions:

Will this completely wipe my HD, both C and D partition, or is there a way for me to install this so it only wipes my C partition, so I can backup everything to my D partition?

Also, once Vista Business is installed, what will I need to download from Acer to get stuff working. Crystal Eye? HD DVD Drivers? Anything along those lines, what do I need so all the functions of my computer work?

The reason why I am doing any of this is because I am unable to recover my computer, and after being on the phone with Acer tech, half my computer functions stopped working!

They will be sending me recovery disks, but I thought if I could do a clean install of Vista Business, it would be better.

    Thanks

I don't know for sure but would think that Vista would be like XP and would ask you which partition you want to install it on. Also like XP, it should give you options for reformatting a partition -- to clean it completely -- if you wanted to (and i like to do that myself) before you installed the new OS.

So I don't think you have to worry about losing what's on D: if you use a Vista Full Install disc...you should be given the option to install on C: and that would only overwrite C:, not D: drive.

P.S. I'll also be doing a Full Install (Home Premium) later when I buy a copy...but maybe I'll wait until Vista SP1 comes out so the Vista H P Full Install I buy will already have SP1 on it. Am just using my eRecovery Discs for now for my Acer 5570.

The Acer website has all the drivers you need. Webcam, Nvidea, bluetooth, infarad, etc. What you will lose is the free software.

You say you are unable to recover you computer. Have you tried the recovery points in Vista? They can put your computer back to the position of when it last worked fine.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I am on Vista Business. The install went perfect! It is nice, the C partition is only 9gigs instead of 30! And no bloat wear. This is great. Totally worth it. There are no features I lost from Home or Empowering Technologies that I used.

Oh, and the good news. My USB devices now work properly, which they never did at any point since owning the laptop.
