Hello, i need some info,
the hard disk of my laptop crashed ( mine is an acer aspire 3680 with celeron 440M 1.86GHz, 512MB DDR, 80Gb hard disk, intel GMA 950, vista basic), can the factory default recovery dvd i burned before with e management software be used to restore the system with a new hard disk
and will this create the hidden partition for disk to disk recovery like the previous hard disk was? Or should i purchase a new copy of vista basic and then download the drivers from acer website? I have not yet purchased a new replacement hard disk and my laptop is no longer under warranty.
    Thanks in advance

I would just get a better laptop if you plan to upgrade to Vista. Your laptop will struggle severely trying to run Vista. If you are happy with what you have and see no reason to upgrade look for a copy of XP Pro on Newegg along with a cheap hard drive. That combo shouldn't run you more than 200 dollars.

You are not qualified to give advise on the Acer forum.

Rather stick with what you know. Namely Dell, Dell, Dell

    Cheers,

Hello again, well thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention, the aspire came with vista basic when i've bought it and i have to say that it really struggled to run this os with only 512Mb of ram. I was thinking to go with windows xp home with that but i haven't checked if all the drivers xp is available on acer website. Still i would like to know if i can use the factory(vista basic) disc i've burned previously so as to be able to use the laptop meanwhile once i get a new harddisk till the time i'll check if all drivers for windows xp are available for this model then maybe i'll stick to xp or maybe add some ram (2GB maybe) to the current configuration and if possible upgrade the cpu like on the thread TeeJay 44 posted.
    Thanks again
