I doubt that I can, but is it possible to swap the battery between a Travelmate 3290 and a 6292? The batteries look exactly the same and the model numbers are almost the same: BTP-AMJ1 (3290) BTP-ANJ1 (6292)

It looks like these are identical batteries so as long as they fit either should work. I would just look at the specs on each battery and if they are the same and fit the same in the laptop either should work.

They will fit each other, I just need to be sure they're not going to damage the laptop or themselves when placed in a deifferent machine. Anyone know for sure whether it's safe or not?

These two battery numbers are listed together on many notebook battery sites so you're not going to damage anything by using them interchangeably. The notebook doesn't know you are going to use a BTP-AMJ1 instead of a BTP-ANJ1....all that matters is that it is getting the right power. You can confirm the batteries provide the same amount of power by comparing the specs on the batteries.

This is a little like having a digital camera that takes AA batteries. It doesn't matter if you use Energizer or Duracell....as long as they are quality AA batteries they will work because they both put out the same power.

Both batteries have the same voltage and amps.

However the older battery says 'Only replace with BTP-AMJ1' and the newer one says to replace with one of same kind, maybe I'll email Acer just to be safe.

    Thanks anyway.
