I bought the Acer TimelineX 5820TG the first week of September and it has been working great...except for the internet connectivity.

I'm in university living on rez and we have wifi throughout our building. Lately, my internet has randomly stopped working all of a sudden and I've tried turning off wireless, logging out and re-logging in to my account for wifi, and disconnecting and reconnecting to our wireless network connection.
At first, I was using the laptop strictly wireless so I thought that was the problem and cause of the internet always cutting off. But then I bought an ethernet cable and connected it to the back of my room phone and nope, the internet continued to do the same thing.

This is getting pretty annoying because I need to use the internet for research assignments, to check my email, and communicate with people back home and I can't have the wifi working only when it feels like it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?

You say "on rez." Have you tried it other places around campus, like the library or food court?

Also, have you tried looking on the Acer website for ethernet and wireless driver updates? Sometimes even just uninstalling and then re-installing the drivers you already have settles things...

    Good luck!

I think Bronsky (a member of this forum) mentioned that Acer's ePower Management randomly shuts down the wireless connection to save power. He didn't mention anything about the ethernet though. You could try uninstalling or at least disabling ePower Management to see if it makes any difference.

I tend to keep my computer in my room; my profs don't like us using laptops in class and I live within five minutes of all my classes that I don't need to bring it elsewhere to study (for now).
I didn't know about the randomly shutting down to save power but I was looking through Acer's Help and Support section and they really do do that. So I followed the instructions and disabled the automatic disconnection of internet connections (both wireless and wired). I checked for updates for both drivers and it said they were up to date.

I have weekly online quizzes for one of my courses so I really hope this solves the problem because I can't have the connection failing on me in the middle of the quiz! I'll check back and post updates in a couple of days about whether the problem persists or not.

    Thanks for all your help!

My recommendation is to completely disable ePower management just to see if it solves your problem. It solved my problem. I never turned it back on again.

It may be a problem with the wifi card as well but I doubt it if you are having the same problem with the Ethernet jack as well (they are controlled by different cards in the unit).
