Hi! I just registered here and did so because I wanted to say thank you for having this helpful forum for Acer laptops.

I do not own an Acer BUT have decided to buy one after reading around in here. I am going to buy an Acer 5315-2326 which is bargain basement model and perfect for what I need it for which is a fancy mp3 player for a radio show I do as I am a disc jocky.

Anyway your threads here have been very helpful in learning about known issues, the pluses and the minuses.

I do no video editing or anything other than watch dvds, I do not burn dvds on a laptop and only use it for audio editing and radio airplay stuff.

I also am going to buy Walmart's 2 year service plan with it to get 3 years total coverage for $99 ... I have owned 4 laptops, 2 of them were new and they ALL had issues after 1 year. laptops are not a high return investment for longevity with most people getting about 4 or 5 years if they are very lucky.

Mainly though the Walmart service plan has a lemon policy which means if they have to service the same issue 3 times they replace the unit entirely. My friend works in electronics at Walmart and explained it to me, he also quit that job recently to work for a new hampshire based computer tech place that services businesses with tech support etc.

I am a 40 year old male who lives in Maine. I own 4 dead laptops (2 gateways, a Dell, and a Toshiba) lolz .... all have motherboard issues I could get into in detail about each one and why I know they do but isn't for this thread.

Basically I wanted to say thanks for all of the info. I have a moderate technical ability with computers which happens when you have or still own a few of them. They all get fritzy now and then and you end up learning a lot about them.

In any case I am impressed enough with Acer to go ahead and buy one even though it has Vista basic and bloatware which I will take of after reading some threads around here that I have read already.

I really have not found anything bad about the 5315 series other than a few instances which were mainly attributed to OS installs that did not come with the laptop. mainly XP and other OS type things.

One i did not see in here was a downgrade to XP or an Ubuntu install that caused the 5315 to overheat when the lid was opened after being in standby. it seems whatever driver it was to start the fan to keep it cool would not start.

not sure if you guys were aware of that issue or not. probably.

I would post the link to another forum site where there is a lengthy thread about it and what they did to fix it but I do not want to appear as a spammer or something. I am not registered there and found it doing a Google search like how I found this one.

I have bookmarked this Acer forum for future reference especially after I buy the Acer I am eyeballing in about 4 weeks.

If I should post it be sure to tell me to as it was very helpful to me because I know I will install XP Pro on mine at some point as I hate Vista. I am already familiar with the yellow question marks in the device manager and that is a relatively easy fix once you know what sound card and other junk you have to get the drivers for. I have replaced the OS on just about everything I own which is 3 PCs here as well as the 4 laptops that are now .... uh ... defunct.

Once again hello and thank you for such an informative forum. I just want a laptop to last more than a year and a half .... it seems like an easy request but alas I have had 4 paperweight dead lappies in 5 years - 2 were new and 2 were eBay refurbishes for $280 each .... no joke!

    Hello from Greece ..

Well i am a train of mystery :D

I can waste hours to search for info and troubleshoot a technical problem ,
but i am not that patience with people , who ask for help , expecting all the work to be done by the others .

Music are my medicine , its the only cure that helps to keep my internal animal in order ( acceptable public behavior after stress ) .

I love perfection in my work , and i had bust my rear to get there . :D

    radio airplay stuff
I was there as hobby , for 15 years .... the telephone line on fire ;)

I like music from all corners of earth , modern and traditional .

I speak three languages , and the last 10 years, that Greece haves , good to go Internet lines , i baptized my self as citizen of the planet WEB . :D

Well thank yeee for the welcome ... my Acer Aspire came in the mail yesterday and I am using it this very moment. I got an Aspire 5315-2326 which was the model made for Walmart stores I believe. Walmart by the way discontinued this model I bought from their stores. I bought it on their website which still has them .... they do still carry Aspire 5315 but not this specific model of 2326 which I believe was a Walmart only distro thingie.

In any case a friend who works at Walmart used her employee discount which saved me $57 so that was cool. Plopped the money on a giftcard and she bought it for me at Walmart dot com as a gift for me. I also bought the two year extended service plan for $99

I only need a fancy mp3 player for radio show stuff as mentioned above.

This has a 2.0 ghz celleron processor 550 ... I did not need the dual core type for the applications I will mainly use this for.

I have 1.5gb of RAM in it though it came with 1gb, had a couple of spares lying about. I plan on buying a 1gb one soon as well as a drive caddy.

So far I am very impressed with the quality of the lcd screen. Fantastic!

Anyhoo thanks for the welcome once again I appreciate it. This forum has already been so helpful to me in deciding to actually buy this laptop. I am never buying any computer ever again without first researching it thoroughly and seeing others troubles they have had with a specific brand model.

Thanks guys to everyone here for being such a big help just by reading all the threads. This is a good forum to have here and I have it bookmarked.
