    Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question about Acer.

I'm thinking about buying the aspire 5741 and was wondering if Acer are a good brand, do they last without breaking etc?

What do you think of the 5741? Would you recommend a different laptop with a similar price tag (acer or not)?

    Thanks for your help!!!

    Bobby

the last couple years ACER is just as good as any of the other consumer models from other manufacturer, my only complaint is the bloatware that comes pre installed on them. theyre not Elitebooks or Toughbooks but not priced like them either

I'm gonna be perfectly honest... I'm less than impressed with the build quality of my current Acers. My first Acer was an Aspire 6920 and that thing was built like a tank, dropped it off a ~4 ft table and only thing that needed to be replaced was the screen.
From my experience with the current Timeline X series... particularly the 4820
    - keyboard flex, above the ODD
    - panel flex above the ODD
    - keyboard can make annoying squeaky sounds, unlike anything I've heard from the dozen or so laptops I've owned. Especially the spacebar and backspace, makes me cringe every time I hear it. Seems to only happen when the key is pressed slowly and gradually though.
    - screen hinge is not very stiff

I don't mean to scare you away from getting an Acer, I just wish they'd take some notes from HP's current line of consumer laptops. Otherwise, it's really no worse than the others like Asus.

They're the #2 brand behind HP. And last I heard, they will be #1 around the 2nd quater of next year.

You have some old news. Acer has fallen to third again behind Dell after a quarterly drop of 6.5%. Acer's volume was based in large part on netbook sales which are being cut into by the slate tablets like the IPad. Acer has recently admitted that it is in for declining sales for awhile. In fact, its former CEO called apple a "mutated virus". :D
