I am buying my first laptop and went to look at an Acer today. The reason I am considering Acer is that their 800# for support is in the US and maybe I will understand what they are saying. (unlike all the other tech support I have had for other computers)
I was looking for something like 4gb, 320gbhd and found the 5081 for $650. Is this a good price for this model? I can't find it on Acer site so maybe it is too new. I would also like to know other things that I forgot to ask at the store. Can you plug printer into it? Can it be plugged into electric instead of using the battery all the time? How many spots there are too hook up other things like camera, Ipod, etc? Can telephone be hooked up to have computer answer it?
Should I take out additional warranty? I can get 1 or more years. I was thinking 3 year for somewhere around $130. Does Acer offer additional warranty for less? And would it be in home? I can't be without a computer as I have small in home business that I need it for.
Is there anywhere I can check to find any reviews on this model? I have been unable to find anything.

I think the model you're referring to is the Acer Aspire AS5535-5018- LINK

I'd also take a look at the Aspire AS6530-5753- LINK

The AS6530 has a 16.0" display vs. the 15.6" display on the AS5535, so it's similar in size. It also has a dedicated ATI HD 3650 graphics card, HDMI port, slightly faster ZM-82 processor and superior speaker/audio setup for $749.

Both systems have 3-USB ports, which is how you'll connect a printer and most other peripherals. Both models also have card readers that support the common types of memory cards in most digital cameras. An iPod can be connected via USB port.

The two models above have AMD processors, the ZM-80 and ZM-82. Though they're adequate for most average users, Intel processors are faster, more energy efficient and tend to generate less heat than those from AMD! I'd suggest taking a look at these two Intel based Acer models-
