I have tried everything under the sun, but I either BSOD when installing the new CCC from ATI or if I completely uninstall everything from the HD and registry and reinstall using Win-64 CCC from ATI, it simply won't work.
Is there a way to do this? I am appalled that the last graphics update from Acer was done in 2009. Obviously they have no incentive to update the graphics once they have you as a customer, but this is pretty egregious. I need to be able to use a software package that release on my GPU for increased performance, but that feature is only available in updated drivers from ATI.
Do I really have to buy a new laptop just to have updated drivers??

You should be able to install drivers without a problem. Did you remove the AMD files in safe mode? Which drivers are you trying to install? Which AMD card do you have?
-
Yea you would think it wouldn't be a problem, but it has been a major pain.
I have tried all the suggestions from here:
AMD Game Forums - BSOD removing old and installing new Catalyst
Thought maybe someone else might know of something. Otherwise I'm going to see if a hammer will fix this... :/ -
Are you sure you're using mobile drivers?
Also are we talking Acer or Asus here? -
I have installed 11-12_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe from here:
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver
I have an Acer Aspire 5740G-6979.
Short of reinstalling Windows, does anyone have any ideas? -
Download the 11.7 driver file first, then...
Uninstall the AMD software/CCC from add/remove programs. Boot into safe mode and using driver sweeper remove any AMD files that come up. Boot your laptop up normally and install this: http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/mobile/11-7_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe
Then restart your system. -

Trial and error, and a bit of searching on these forums lol. I have the 5850m and the 11.7 drivers are amazing for that card. The 11.11/.12 drivers caused a lot of bsod's for people. Apparently the 12.1 drivers are good for some people, but when I tried them I got a bsod and lower fps in games. Went back to 11.7 and performance was up again. So i figured you have a 5xxx series card the 11.7 would be good for you as well
Is it impossible to install new ATI drivers on an Acer??
