Is it worth upgrading from 5400 to 7200?

While waiting for my new GPU to arrive from Hong Kong, I've been looking at other components on my Acer 9920G.

I currently have two 250GB hard drives (no other details in the manual) I know they are 5400 rpm and wonder if the improvement in performance of a 7200 is worth the cost?

If you need more space, you can get a 500GB 7200RPM and replace one of your 250GB 5400RPM HDDs. It's pretty cheap and will give you a decent boost in performance.

Thanks for your reply, it's not the space but the performance improvement that I'm looking for, is it significant?

I'm also interested in this. On my laptop the only thing with which I'm dissatisfied is hard disk. It always seems very inert. My desktop during large data transfers feels much more responsive then laptop although its hard drive is very old. I think it's because desktop HDD has 7200rpm while the laptop has 5400.

Also, do 7200 rpm HDDs consume more power than 5400rpm? I know that they used to, but is that still true today?
