Can anyone help??? I have an Extensa 5620-6830 with some big issues. First off, on bootup the HDD is requiring a password from me which I do not know. After attempting 3 guesses, a dark screen shows up along with some information which says:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
    Operating system not found

Don't know if it really matters, but I'm still able to acess BIOS setup by hitting F2 on startup.

The message displayed is the result of boot-from-LAN (as failed). Since you haven`t entered the password for the HDD (and it remained locked/unavailable for boot) so BIOS skipped it as a bootable device and chose next in line and it was LAN, and since there was no cable plugged in or available to boot, the boot-from-LAN failed...

So not a big deal and nothing to worry about...
Try to remove HDD password from bios since you can enter it without password...

Otherwise replace your HDD with a new one (that has password removed or password that you know :)) and it will work like a brand new...

    Hope this was helpful...

    Cheers from snowy Sarajevo ;)

Thanks for your reply. I did try entering BIOS setup to see if I could get around the HDD password problem. Alas, I am able to see that all other passwords are disabled except for the HDD. When I Iry to disable it, it asks for the unknown password.

And, I actually did buy a new HD a few months back. It was after I installed it that I began seeing the screen showing 'no operating system found'. So I got paranoid and put the old HD back in.

Does that make sense? Did I maybe do something wrong?

The operating system is on your hard drive (all your data is).

If you want to move to a new drive you can either:

A: Install a fresh copy of windows (with a retail or OEM edition).
B: Use a program to migrate all your data to the new drive.
C: Create backup disks and use them to restore the factory settings to the new drive.

There should be a jumper or short point on your motherboard to clear the passwords.

If the HDD is locked with a password, then all data on it is and will remain unaccessible.

That means, data migration is impossible, and the creation of recovery media also.

Alright, so I've gone ahead and gotten a new HD and installed it. This has solved my first problem. Although of course I still have no operating system. I am somewhat computer illiterate, but I'm having a good time trying to figure things out. If anyone can help me with my next step, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

What about using your recovery discs?
