Sadly I didn't use the laptop for two and a half weeks, and it was on the side of my table, neglected. I don't recall what condition the battery was left in, whether it was fully charged or nearly empty.

The battery doesn't seem to charge and kill-a-watt meter shows 1.2W when plugged in, computer off. The battery doesn't get warm and neither does the AC adapter when the computer is off. But the battery charging light turns on when the AC adapter is plugged in. In addition, unplugging the AC adapter anytime immediately shuts off the computer (either in BIOS or OS). Is it dead? (This is the Aspire 1410 11.6'' version)

    EDIT:
The problem seems to have corrected itself and the battery is now charging. I left it plugged into the AC adapter for a few hours and it did nothing. When I checked now, it seems to be charging fine.

Check with HWMonitor what's your current battery capacity compared to designed capacity- you'll see how far are you from the battery dying on you.
