Hi there, I have an Acer Aspire 8930G.

In the last couple of months I've noticed my laptop is getting pretty hot, well actually REALLY hot after a few hours. Right now after turning it on for 45min and turning on a game, not a really intense game and I'm not doing anything on it yet, for 10 minutes the temperature reading is already 92 degrees Celsius for the gpu, 23 for the cpu, and 44 for the hdd.

My laptop didn't heat up before only within the last 2 months or so, even though I don't use it that often since I'm mainly on my computer now.

So, do you think my laptop has a problem and what can I do to fix it?

    Does your fan spin up?
Depending on the environment where you use you Notebook, the small fins of the cooling assembly get covered with dust over time and cooling gets less efficient.
On some notebooks you can take off a part of the bottom case to check if the fan is covered with dust and you can check if the fins are covered by taking a look through the vent holes on the side.
If this is the problem, you can remove the dirt by pointing compressed air at the fan. Don't blow through the venthole/fins, cause the dust will be inside your notebook then.

I'm not sure what you mean by spin up.. I can hear it working if it has something to do with that..

I'm also not sure that if I open the bottom of the case, would my extended warranty get voided? That's the only thing holding me back from cleaning it.

If there are no warranty stickers that would have to be torn apart, you could open it without voiding the warranty. Just have a look at the fins from outside if dirt is blocking them.

Ah, I'll need to buy a longer and smaller screwdriver to get to a screw in a deep hole as well as some compressed air. I guess I'll have try tomorrow.

The temps you are reporting are quite weird. 92oC for the GPU, ok that's fine but 23oC for the CPU ???? that's very low. As der mali said probably you have dirt in your laptop that's why your GPU is overheating. I know that the 8930G is running very cool compared to other laptops.
Also where do you notice the heat? Is it where the GPU is?
Open the laptop and have a look, try to trace the components and which one is producing the heat.

Haha, the 8930 is not very "cool" compared to other laptops. I had one, and out of the box, it went 92C too, and then it began to lag in games.

It could be dirt, but mine was new.

Maybe you are over charging your battery this could be the cause of your laptop heating up. You should only use the charger when needed because it will cause your battery and your laptop to be hot before you even switch it on.
