Looking to buy a new laptop with an upgraded performance compared with my 5612ZWLMi. (T2060 proc,1gb ram, 120gb hard drive, Intel GMA950 integrated graphics).

Like the look of the middle range 5920 at around £550-650 in UK.
Ideally 7300 Intel proc, 2gb ram, 160-250 hard drive with dedicated nvidia
8400/8600GS. other items not to important in specification (dvd writer/camera/usb/firewire etc.

The point I would make is there are lots of problems with this model
reported here.....Is is a reliable machine.??...I am quite pleased with my current machine apart from its tendancy to need a factory reset/re-install when it won't start up/blue screens in the middle of working...which I put down to flaky Vista as there is no other obvious cause.

Any other models recommended (15.4 screen) in line with spec above?

only problem with it is the exceptional heat created by it when running several tasks or like that , other than that it is a good buy.

I just dont like the design , especially the ACER letter and it is noisy when run something requires lot of CPU power like Adobe CS3.

I might sell this 4920G(in my area this is more popular than the 5920) the 14inch screen verion of the 5920G with ATI graphic (HD X2400 usually) and get a Pavillion DV2755TX or DV2626TX with T7500 and GF8400GS.

I think the HP is a better value than the Acer ,although the Acer is already a great value.

So just check it out at a local store and play with it too see if you can stand the noisy and heat , make sure to compare it with others.

The build quality seems very good and it's very solid.

Well, i have a 5920 for approximately a half a year, too. Have no problems with it. Fast, reliable, build quality is very good, and in my opinion this is the most beautiful laptop on the market :)
And last but not least, for me, the fan is still pretty quiet, when on 100%.

To digress... even the 5680 series is pretty solid. Had it for more than a year and no problems whatsoever. This was the series before the 59** models came out.

A lappie is only as good as it's master. Treat it well and it will treat you with the same reliability.

Apparently, the 59... series is **** hot in build quality and performance wise..

    You judge.....

My (old) 5684 WLMi still rocks though.

    Cheers,
    Theo
