I've seen on this website the same laptop as mine but £20 cheaper and with a 8600GT. Is this real or a typo?

I'm going to say real. Prices vary from site to site or store to store.

Yeah
Watch this video

That is what the site says so I would assume that as well...........

-
The best thing would be to send an e-mail to scan themselves along with the info you have posted above and ask them to clear things up
-
-
Wait for conformation that it is the 8600
If it is then get it from scan
Also, why not see if you can find my laptop in the UK in your price
It is the update of the one you are going to buy, and has somewhat better specs (can be different to mine) -

No
Stay away from a 9300
It is crap for gaming, the 8600 GT is much better, although there are cards better
The best cards availible in 15.4" notebooks are
-9800M gt (alienware m15x/NP8660)
-9800M gs (msi/asus g50
-9600M gt/9650M GT
-8600M GT /9500 M GS
The best are the 98xx series cards
Hope this helps, also you might want to fill out the FAQ in the "which notebook to buy" sub-forum -
Seen this acer myself, so I hope it's real for that price. I'll also email 'em

I have emailed them and they stated that the specs are entirely accurate, 4gb ram, 512mb 8600 GT, bluray etc....
I haven't ordered one yet, but I think this will end up being the one for me.
I know it's a little funny looking, but I like to be different.
The specs at the top say up to 512mb of video ram, and in the list it says that it is the 8600GT that has 512mb of dedicated memory.
So I'm presuming that it does have the full 512mb and not 256mb with another 256mb from onboard?
tris -
Guess its a okay deal, though to be its not exactly cheap; its samilar to the price of secondhand XPS M1710 with Nv's 7900 series, and I'd stay away from 8600m due to their design faults.

HI, according to the LX number here http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/product....angedAlts=&kcond5e.c2att92=122&CRC=1164770960 it isn't the same spec and has a different gfx card....
Chris -
I got an email from scan saying it is real. Might send back my amazon order now.
-
Did they actually say it has a 8600M GT? because the site is now showing it having a HD 3470 in techinal specs.
-
-
Oh thats a shame would have been sweet if it had an 8600M GT especially with a blu-ray and so cheap lol.

Quicklite
A second hand XPS doesn't come with a years warrenty though, and now seeing all the reports about the 8660M GT that is worrying. and the fact they have now changed their minds its a 3470
I have seen a refeubished 6020g with a 512mb hd 3650 card in it for the same price, do you think that one will be better to go for?
(same price, processor, bluray combo, but only 3gb of ram opposed to 4gb)

If theres one thing I have learnt about gfx cards in laptops so far, its to ring or email and check with the supplier to confirm the card it has in.
As there are quite a few that dont state it on the official site but do actually have the card specced in them
Shame this one doesnt though

Just a point I'd like to make
If you want a laptop for serious gaming, I would suggest you look torwards an ASUS G50 /MSI gt620 or higher
The 8600M GT is getting dated now, and it is always better to have newer tech -
Red Alert 3 and older command and conquer games
A few older FPS's like call of Duty 1
Black hawk down
(not that bothered about the graphics, as they can shine on my more than capable desktop, I'll just use 800x600 and low settings if I have to, but believe red alert 3 will run smoothly on medium with no AA I would have thought)
SD dvd/video watching (so if theres a blu ray drive in there it's fine for me, if not I'm not really bothered. I dont own any blurays and dont intend to replace an 800+ dvd collection with them either)
Wireless net features for hotspots and free wifi cafe's etc....
That's about it.
I wanted either HD 3650 or 8600GT, but as the 8600GT seems to have so many iussues I'll opt for the 3650 (which beats the 3470 easily enough in benchmarks and probably in the gaming I require)
Since this model has the 3470, I will try to get the other one I saw with a 16" display and 512mb hd 3650, but if I miss that I'll probably just geta dell from the outletwhich is meant to be better build quality thjan acer anyway, but I dont mind the acer either way I'll be chuffed)

You should fill out the FAQ in the which notebook to buy section
they will help you find a lot of good notebooks that fit your needs -
Hi, list of mobile gfx card performance http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
Chris -
RaYYaN:
Already have mate, I just came here to discuss acers with other owners and graphics with them.
A straight out of the horses mouth approach
chriscatt:
Been compareing and weighing up there, but dont really understand the benchmarks.
Besides if I hit the 'more details' button, it mainly states that the are using the cards in conjunction with t8100 processors, and the laptops I'm looking at are t575/t5800/t6400 at max
So I'm not gonna to get a true performance rating for myself there.
I have seena nice laptop with a 18.4" display(8730g) Right at the peak of my budget, but it has a 9300GS in there whihc is rated as a low/mid range card.
I'd love to know if that can run red alert 3 and the older c+c's on low/medium settings at 800x600
Any one have any expieriance with this card?
Not bothered about the weight to carry it round, but would having a screen that size also put more pressure on the card?
(and if I run it out to my projector?)
tris -
Let me tell you this
128-bit cards like the 8600/9600 cards have difficulty playing games at any resolution over 1280x800
The 9300M gs is even worse and has no chance of running an games on an 18" screen with a res of at least 1680x1050 -
I'd only watch dvds at the laptops native (but thats no where near 1680)
and the wife has limited it to 17" max
tris -
9300 gs should be able to run games at that setting, but it still might have difficulty
Get at least a 9600 in an 18" -
I wouild like something that will last
tris -
What's so bad about the 8600GTs? Do they break a lot?
-
nothing is wrong with ALL 8600GTs it's just that (quite a few) of them were found to be defective and nVidia admitted this publicly
Is this real
