    Hey people, I got a question for you guys... Has anyone tried to install an Ivy Bridge processor in a 4830T? I have a 4830T-6443 which I've already upgraded from the i3-2350M to an i5-2410M (hey, it had turbo-boost ;) ). Now I have gotten my hands on an i5-3210M. Question is, would the Acer play friendly with the new CPU...

    I know for desktops, MOST 6-series boards are fine with either Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge processors, but I have seen some complain/not POST... I don't mind tearing down the laptop to swap processors, but I'd rather not go through the trouble if I know the upgrade won't work.

    If nothing else, I might see about throwing it in my girlfriends laptop... Again, a 6-series but it's a Lenovo with the HSF all easily accessible under one large panel!

    Ivy Bridge won't work with Sandy Bridge board without UEFI update which I'm pretty sure 4830T didn't get.

    Well darn... I kind of figured the BIOS wouldn't allow it but I was still being hopeful ^^;

    I've been doing some research and what i found is that if you have the latest bios and the chipset is HM77 or HM67, theres a good chance that it will work. Afaik, UEFI bios isnt a requirement for a cpu upgrade. UEFI is protocols for how the OS interacts with the firmware and requires GPT partitions. As always, YMMV
