Hey i have the Acer Aspire 5315 notebook, 1Gig ram,1.73ghz,120GB hd, And the mobile intel express chipset family 256MB i think. I was wondering if it is possible to change the graphics card in this laptop or not, there is also another problem. my friend has a dell laptop with a 64MB ram And a not too good graphics card, wiith a low processor. my laptop faw exceeds it. but he can run this game we play better then i can? so just some comments that can point into my direction.

ditch VISTA,,, upgrade to 2 gigs of RAM.... and swap CPUs for a used CORE2DUO from ebay a T5450 can be had for $50.... or T8300 is a real treat

but that celeron was never intended to run VISTA... XP is the way to go with this model

Vista can eat a GIG of ram by it's self (ok i lie,, i lie) but it sure slows down an already crippled PC even XP really needs 2 gigs of ram

By adding RAM to the laptop you are making more memory available for the X3100 which uses the SYSTEM ram for video ram....

you will not ever change the BUILT-IN graphics,,, sorry to say,,,

    your best options are:
1.) BUY MORE RAM (helps video),,
2.) upgrade to a CORE 2 DUO (helps speed of entire system and gives more CPU time to graphics functions)
3.) downgrade to windows XP (us an OS that doesn't eat 25% of your system resources just to idle)

check out my 5315 info page

all kinds of good links there!! http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=251130

Ok im going to order that, that will slot straight in ?

I'm a little lost, there is only 2 slots for ram right?

so if i bought this it looks abit different to what is in there now..

but would that only give me 1.5gb ram? because there is already 2 in there?

do yourself a favor if you can afford it either buy (2) of the 1 gig pieces

or buy (1) 2 gig stick

any PC5300 DDR2 200pin laptop memory should work fine

    http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=381&name=Laptop-Memory

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...10260381+1052910525&name=200-Pin+DDR2+SO-DIMM

these links should help you out... just BUY PC5300 or PC6400,,
MUST BE LAPTOP MEMORY (200 pin DDR2 PC5300 or better)

best to buy 2 matched sticks....IMO,,, but not required....and will work fine w/ mixed sticks....

but mixing old ram with new may slow the NEW ram to the CAS speed of the OLD ram... so i suggest 2 sticks of 1gig each..

Yet, it is weird why the other laptop performs better than the 5315 if it's worse :|

I'm also having some problems with running games that have recommended specs that doesn't come even close to the 5315 specs

downgrade the OS to XP... that laptop stock just isn't powerful enough to run vista by it's self.... maybe w/ a CPU upgrade to a T7300 and 3 gigs of ram,,,

but the cheap answer is downgrade to XP which doesnt hog the system requorces for the OS

these laptops should not have had vista installed in combination with a celeron CPU and only 1 gig of ram

that will free your CPU to do graphics calcs.... right now your CPU is too busy running vista to run the calculator.... i have the same system i know what you are complaining about

nope,,, you will need a LEGITIMATE RETAIL OR OEM XP PRO CD...

the quick restore disks and disks shipped with prebuilt systems are often mofidifed to work only on the system brand and model they came with..

it is illeagel to use OEM disks on systems they didn't come with!!!
and talk of such is very very frowned upon here!!

get a legit disk and i'll help you

    chris,

what sais bigozone was right at the time he said it, but now that other have tested, you CAN put 3 gigs in the 5315, a 500 gb hdd, a t9500 core 2 duo cpu.
    the only rules to know:

    - for the cpu, you'll have to flash your bios,
when you flash your bios, take care to close all other programs and disable security softwares.

    - for the hdd, you'll have to reinstall the os,

    - for the ram, you'll have to put the 2 gb module on the up socket (laptop on the lid)

for me, i'd like to change the graphic card, that's why i came on this thread.
i'll check it to know if it's possible... hehe.

if you don't like vista, try seven rc1 ! do it quickly, end of may it's finished.
    valid for one year !

on microsoft's website, not illegal !

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows-7/download.aspx

    windows live account needed.

seven is quicker and more stable than vista, know it...

It's pretty easy to find most of them though.
