Ok i was happy i finally decided on my laptop the acer 5672 after researching for a few weeks, this site was very useful btw. Out of the box i encountered problems, soon as I turned on the PC i got an error message saying media test failure and no operating system found. So right now I'm installing xp that i had and was just wondering if that would be any problem. Also many people were saying this laptop came with a lot of acer software that was essentially garbage and that's why many people opted to re-install xp, just wondering if i would still have these software on mine, since their was only one partition on the HD that was ~114GB, and also would I need to get all the drivers from the acer website. Thanks for the help in advance.

    Specs:
    - Intel Core Duo T2300 (1.66GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
    - 15.4 WXGA CrystalBrite LCD
    - ATI Radeon X1400 128 MB Dedicated 384 Shared (512)
    -120GB 5400 SATA HDD
    -2 GB DDR2

Whoa, sounds like a hard drive slipped out of the warehouse w/o being formatted. There should be three partitions, two big (50+GB) and one small that has the OS and drivers on it.

BTW, I haven't reformatted my hard drive, I've left it factory intact except for converting it to NTFS to save on file cluster size. Runs great. I do think Acer (or hope anyway) will come out with a fix b/c something is limiting the GPU's maximum effectivness. Other X1400's are benchmarking 25% higher on other vendors laptops.

    What's up with that Acer?

yea, i woulda returned the thing and got a discount. there was obviously a screw up somewhere.

u can get all the drivers online, but just copying them over from the hidden partition is so much faster.

for some reason after i installed xp pro, my webcam no longer works and crashes the computer every time. i might need to go back to xp home
