Hi, I just purchased the 4820T and really like it. But there seems to be a lot of bloat-ware. How would I go about doing a clean install of windows (to rid the crap) because a windows 7 disk wasn't supplied with the laptop?

    Thanks

Just uninstall the bloat-ware from the Control Panel. It won't take you that long. If you want to make recovery discs, you need to use "Acer eRecovery Management" in the start menu. I believe 3-4 discs for the Windows 7 recovery discs and 1 disc for the drivers. It'll take you about 3 hours+ to make the Windows 7 recovery discs.

You can't do a clean install of Windows 7 unless you downloaded or brought a Windows 7 disc.

I was thinking about uninstalling using the control panel, but more often than not files are left behind.

You can try uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller for each program, but that would take longer. It's a more sophisticated uninstaller and there is a freeware version.

Not sure if this allowed to be asked. Sorry if it isnt. If I borrow a friends windows 7 disk and use the ID key which came with my laptop. Would this combo produce a fresh install of the OS?

Only, if you use the ABR(Activation Backup and Restore) method on your Acer installation first and then import the Acer Key and Acer Certificate to your clean install of Windows 7.

You will not be able to use just your Acer Key on any Windows 7 installation. If that was possible, everyone would be installing Windows 7 for free.

ABR did not work on my computer. I think something is funky with Acer and the beta ABR.
