Well, gotta say I'm impressed by this beast.
Installed Crysis and played at High on 1024x800.
Maybe its easier on the eyes, but seems like I can play at 25fps. At least it feels like its 25 0.o
But anyway, one thing I need to check is whether the 9600M GT is using GDDR3 memory.
When I run GPU-Z, the memory doesn't have any type associated with it?
Any ideas how to check?
CPU checks out well, as does RAM. I just want to ensure I got what I paid for![]()

just post a pic of ur gpu-z here. make sure u download the latest version of gpu-z.
if ur memory is 800mhz i guess is DDR3. -
Which GPU-Z version are you using ?

Upload a screenshot of v0.2.8

Yep your one is definitely GDDR3 as ur Memory speed is 800MHZ, mine is DDR2 and it shows memory as 400Mhz. Lucky u people, why didnt hp put GDDR3 in dv5ts

Wow, wicked man. I am also planning to by the 5930G.
-
Def from John Lewis then
-
Hahaha....yeah, for sure.
Have fun with the GDDR3 Acer. -
Oh crimedy.
I think this also might cause a slight snag with my plan to eventually upgrade the MXM card on my system.
The 9600M GT uses PCI-Express 2.0, while my 9500M GS uses PCI-E 1.0.
If the 9600M GT isn't backwards-compatible...well, drat. -

*Suigi's beverage is now largely sprayed all over his LCD screen.*
THAT is impressive. Those 9600M GTs work wonders, don't they? -
I'm seriously considering this machine. The other laptop I have been looking at is the Toshiba A300D-15B which costs an extra £30. I was wondering if the Acer only having 3GB RAM, as compared to the Toshibas' 4GB, is an issue? Does the GDDR3 really make that much of a difference?
I'm looking for a laptop that can comfortably handle Photoshop CS3 as well as AutoCAD. The only games that will go on it will most likely be Flight Simulator (2004, possibly FSX). l
I have a budget of £700 and was wondering if the Acer, which has two features which I definitely require (e-SATA and Bluetooth), will give me best value for my cash?
One last thing. Although the 5930G appears to be a John Lewis exclusive, I came across this on Amazon and was wondering if it was a machine that has been previously sold or is possibly about to be released?

Nice! I'm also thinking of getting one myself. Just waiting a couple of weeks in case the prices go down a bit
(it already is a good deal, yeah I know)
-
Hell yeah GDDR3 def makes a difference!
I believe its something like a 30% boost.
DDR3 runs at 800Mhz instead of 400Mhz, so you can see the boost there.
Thou ultimately I think CPU is a bottleneck for this computer 0.o... maybe.
Currently playing Crysis on HIGH(DX9) at 1024x800. Damm it looks amazing.
Oh and bioshock and supreme commander maxed out at the native resolution.
You know I used Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 on my Inspiron 6400.
Its 3dMark06 score was... 990 ^^;
And this one is 5500.
So I don't think you'll have any problem.
AutoCAD however makes use of OpenGL and CPU, so I dunno about that =/
I used ProEngineer (did Aeronautical engineering) on my Inspiron 6400 and it ran perfectly.
So maybe AutoCAD will be fine? So long as you're not making a whole battleship
Ah yes, this has e-SATA port on the left. I haven't tried it yet though. But this John Lewis version doesn't have bluetooth. You could get a small usb bluetooth key (sticks out 5mm).
Tis up to you though. I have to say I'm really happy about this purchase. I want to do a review of this laptop once I install Windows XP. I'm sure I can get more performance if I do.
EDIT: Forgot. so the thing i dislike about the laptop (nothings perfect afterall), is the amount of lights. lol
I can turn off the LCD Screen off by Fn-F5, which is cool. But not the power lights or media lights. Oh and using Vista -
I am buying this at new year's. A 100 quid price drop is expected, and a few discount coupons.
@sci123: Mini-Review ? -
Hi all, I'm also considering this laptop. Very good performance. Sure beats HP Pavillion dv5t.
-
Where can I buy one in US?? And I hope I can upgrade the processor into a T9600. Will it support 800Mhz RAM? 1066Mhz maybe??
Gud luck with your 5930 sci123!! -
Good stuff coming from Acer. What can I say except that I have always backed their products to the hilt.
They are getting better and better as time goes by (with some of us regulars consistently encouraging instead of slaying.)
Thats how to build a brand in spite of lots of negative stuff out there....
I am sure that there are Acer engineers out there that actually visit this forum and learn from the negative comments etc.
Just my 2 cents

EBay....
It should be compatible with the T9600, since it is available with the T9400.
It'll support DDR2-800. DDR2-1066 isn't available yet. -
-
It should because most people have been running Crysis with this card/config on 1280x800 resolution (medium setting) with about 25 fps.
I am not surprised the OP was able to get high settings on lower resolution though since it would be less demanding visually. -
Any heat issues with this laptop?
-
Just got 5930g, but is it GDDR3?
