I've just recieved my new latop, and have had it for about an hour.

So far I really like the look and feel of it, but there are just a few things that im wondering about:
There seems to be small dark vertical lines in between the pixels. Is this normal, and am I just being super sensitive because I am used to 1080p?

I read something about throttling on this machine. Is it true for all machines, or just some unlucky few? In that case, could someone point me to the thread where I go about fixing this.

My previous laptop was an alienware m15x, which I got refunded after a year because of some unfixable problem. What kind of gaming performance should I expect on this one (dont care much about high settings, since I will be getting a desktop to do my majority of gaming on).

Is there anything else I should be aware of with this laptop.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys here in the acer forum, and hope that you are just as helpfull and friendly as in the alienware forum.

    1. You should take a photo of your screen and post it on here. Not exactly sure what small dark vertical lines in between the pixels mean. Do you mean it looks grainy? The screen isn't that great on the 3830TG; so you can't really expect much from it.

    2. I believe there is CPU throttling on most (if not all) 3830TG laptops. Search ThrottleStop in this forum and it'll help you with this issue. I believe it can disable TurboBoost and lower the CPU speed.

    3. The Geforce GT 540m is a mid-level performance video card and is noticeably slower than the HD 5850. However, it'll still perform well enough for most older games. Expect middle-high settings in games like SC2, TF2, most steam games, etc. In the newest games, you might have to play on low settings.

    Thanks a lot :)
    1) I guess grainy is a good description. I guess its just because im used to the higher resolution.
    2) will do

    3) great. Thats the kind of performance I was hoping for, but I actually thought it would perform somewhat well in newer fps like crysis and stuff, seeing as the card is weaker than my old one, but the screen has a much lower res.

Thanks a lot for your helpfull answer :)

About the 3830tg screen if you happen to notice any grainyness use the intel graphics settings and tweak the color settings to your liking. I found that lowering brightness and boosting the color saturation to 8 makes the colors look vivid while not overdoing the image so it looks cleaner and crisper than the stock profile. Unfortunately there's not much you can do about the viewing angles, but thats not a problem for me because i prefer no peeping from wondering eyes ;D

I just tried running a benchmark yesterday (vantage) to test temps and stuff, but for some reason the nvidia gpu didnt kick in. Therefore the benchmark was run on the intel gpu. Shouldnt the gpu's switch automatically, or do I have to push some sort of button?
