Ok,Im new to notebooks, wireless, and to this site :)
Ok I was at wal mart the other day and they has some sale,so I picked up this aspire for about $300. Then I bout the Belkin 54-g wireless router to go with it.
Im sure that its not my cable connection as I contacted time warner and had them run test.
I did some test I direct connected the desktop, and notebook and ran some bandwidth test,,,they both did fine. I then hooked up the router and ran the desktop it ran fine, but then I had problems with the notebook.
It wont even finish a test,or it stops half way through a vid on youtube "or any vid for that matter" and also wont listen to aol/yahoo radio,it starts to then like 30 seconds later it just stops and doesnt rebuffer or anything?
Im not sure what to check or do,Someone brought up that the belkin router might not get along good with the wireless card inside the acer?
    My signal is 100% 54G.
Only thing I can think of is that its getting interference from other near by wireless connections? once in awile it will pick up a linksy system and will show 2 bars. But I always run on my belkin, would they conflict?
I hope someone can help, this thing is driving me nuts!
    Thanks

I’m not sure how you tested, when you say direct connected do you mean a wired connection from the router , OR directly connected the modem to your desktop and notebook ? Is it only the wireless connection giving problems? Did you try connecting the router to your notebook/desktop with a wire (LAN cable) ?

If it is only the wireless connection then it could be due to several reasons (in the order of most to least probable cause):
    • A driver problem with your notebook’s wireless adaptor (Fix : Update drivers)
    • Firmware bug in the router (Fix: update firmware)
    • Signal interference (Fix: Change the broadcast channel)
    • Hardware problem with either the notebook’s wireless adaptor or the router (Fix: return ;) )

well I tried to find a update from the router software,it ddnt connect to anything so Im guessing it up to date.
I installed the software to my notebook "as I only installed it to my desktop before" It said to set a channel,I just put it on auto?
Would making the connection unsecured do anything, there was 3 choices, but it said if you dont know if you notebook supports it check manual,I did and didnt see anything,so just picked unsecured.

Can you test with a different notebook ? If that also behaves the same way, then we can safely assume that your notebook is not the problem.

If its a signal interference problem then try with several different hard coded channel values (not Auto).

No,I dont have any other notebooks.
What I meant by testing is,I plugged up directly to the modem, and ran 3 speed tests each with my notebook and with desktop.
The results were very close on both. Now I try to run a test wireless on the notebook and it revs the meter up to 6mb at first then it works its way back down to nothing and doesnt finish the test.
Is belkin a good router? Have people have problems in the past with belkin and acer stuff or just belkin in general?
Any suggestion on what I could do to fix this?

    Its fixed!
The problem was that that belkin router was a POS.
I bought a D-Link router and so far it runs great.
I have my notebook, desk top,and play the 360 all at the same time and not a problem :)
    Boo! Belkin
