Hi,
I recently got rid of the "bundled" version of windows delivered by Acer when you buy their notebooks. I thought these recovery cds did not give me enough freedom to manage my computer the way I want.
So I bought XP pro. And installed it.
After searching Acer support's web pages, I was able to find all the missing drivers. BUT, my keyboard isn't the same anymore.
In the hardware management utility, windows tells me that everything is OK that there is no missing drivers. However, when I type caracters, differents caracters will display from what is printed on the keys.
I live in Quebec, so I need to have the french canadian keyboard.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
Thanks for you help

Thanks for the answer...
you see the problem is that the language available in the language tab doesn't correspond to the layout of my keyboard.
In the language option I have : Canadian (french) which would seem to be an obvious choice!!! But selecting this language doesn't give me the same layout as my keyboard.
And I did try all other sensible language, such as candian english, us english, and so on...
NONE of the availble language matches the keys layout.
My feeling is that the keyboard is custom made by Acer... However, there doesn't seem to be an available drivers... actually there is one but I am unable to install it. When I select update driver and I try to replace the old one by the one I found on acer web page. I get a message saying that the old driver is better that the one I want to install.
I stopped there because I was afraid to screw things up worse if I'd go on...
Any idea?
Thanks

actually very much alike...
But with a few minor differences. On the second row from the bottom, on the left, my shift key is smaller to give place to a special key for the french "".
Another difference is the caracters printed on the keys. Letters are mainly alike, but special caracters are not the same...
You've probably shown me the US keyboard?

My theory is that the keyboard (physical) of my acer laptop is custom made by acer. And that the solution doesn't reside in a keyboard layout (ie: a language) but in a special driver made by Acer to fit their custom keyboard.
I asked Acer support and was told that since I installed an non-OEM operating system, they wouldn't give me any support... I was told to go to forums such as this one.
That really pi*s** me off because I felt I was taken hostage by Acer.
There is a keyboard driver for my model, but when I try to install it, as I said befaore, windows tells me not to install it. It says that the one already installed is better... Should I ignore this warning? and if yes, how can I update the driver in spite of windows?
Thanks for your help

By the way, is there an INF file present? If so, I usually go to device manager and use the "have disk" method. -
