    Hi guys.

I decided to post this as a new thread as i dont want to crash on previous issues.

After recieveing my laptop back from Acer and had a new board (Bad Bios Flash - Ooops :p ), my keyboard doesnt work as it should.
The laptop is seeing the full size keyboard as a partial smaller laptop keyboard without the numpad.
I tried to flash the bios again, and ran into problems (See other thread).
However, all fixed now with a new and proper bios in, V1.34, and still my laptop sees my keyboard as a smaller keyboard.

I can get numlock on, but i have to use "Fn + F11", and then the numbers appear on the letter part of the keyboard and the numpad is still useless.
Although, the page up, page down, home and end buttons still work.

Could it be possible that i need to log in to the bios using a special acer engineer code?
Or could it just be a simple driver issue?
Ive tried running acer erocovery and am going to try to re-install windows without all the "acer Empowering" S*** on. A clean install so to speak.

However, when booting into the initial stages of the vista install disc, the numpad still reacts the same.

    Anyone with any ideas?

    Thanks in advance Guys.

    Does no-one have any ideas???!!!

I have tried a number of things and have still not found a solution. The issue definately isn't software related.
I have re-installed all the drivers etc, and still nothing.
    Hardware issue maybe?
If only i had the full options in the bios.
It could be in there. Maybe a dead keyboard???

Please help, i use the numpad so much and its rendered useless.

Oh and Acer support??? F****** useless!!! (Recover the machine, if not working we will need it back!!!) Bog off

    Ok. Rant Over. Help???

Which BIOS version came with the laptop originally?

<silly query> Did you check to ensure that the technicains installed the ribbon connecting your keybord to the MoBo correctly? (one edge, may be a bit loose).

Hi there. Yes, i took the keyboard out and checked the connections myself.
Im thinking that the technicians at acer have damaged it.

The previous bios version was 1.29. (I thought it might be that as Acer have changed that version now to 1.29a)
Im now running bios version 1.34 and nothing.

If i press "Fn+F11", in switches on NumLock but it only works on the keyboard section like on smaller keyboard. The proper NumPad is rendered useless.

    Any ideas? Im stumped!! :confused2:
Think buying a new keyboard will fix it?

If it's still under warranty send it back and have them fix it.

I'm suggesting that you find a way of flashing your BIOS back to the original factory one to see if it solves the problem. I wouldn't advise you to waste money on buying a new keyboard, since there isn't anything physically wrong with your current one.

What improvements, have you gotten with this new BIOS update? Can you post the download URL?

Im not sure what is with each bios update as no info is included on the Acer website.
I cant tell you how annoying this is, NOT being able to use my numpad is driving me mad!! :mad2:
I really need to get this sorted, but I am currently unable to send the Laptop back as i need it for work everyday.

    Any more ideas?

Do you have the option of 'downflashing' your BIOS to the original 1.29 that came with your laptop? You may have to edit one of the configuration files when you do the BIOS flash, so that it thinks that you are just doing an upgrade.

I have the exact same problem.
Tried to perform a bios upgrade...my laptop froze with an error message.
After this my laptop wouldn't startup anymore...no power...nothing.

The laptop was repaired by acer..my motherboard was replaced and the latest bios version was installed.

Next, my numeric pad doesn't work anymore.
Is sending it to Acer again the only option??
Isn't there a known fix for this?

im thinking you may have the wrong keyboard type or set-up for the drivers you have the laptop i use has the larger keyboard and it seen as a PS/2.
check all your settings for your keyboard type.

Do you also have an Acer Aspire 7720G?

Because I see a lot more under my keyboard hardware properties...this was the same when my keypad did work though..

I just remarked that by downflashing my BIOS, I also loose sound.

I flashed it up to 1.45, sound is back but numeric pad is still absent.

    Can someone help please?

    Thx!

This has become an old post but I had the same issue

I found out the solution after an approximately 6 hours search in google. It is so simple that one exe file restored the numpad even without a windows restart!

I had the same fault with an acer aspire 7004 laptop, I tried everything from everyone, but got no joy as a last resort I removed the key board, then booted the system up, I then connected the keyboard ribbon & let windows install the drivers, it sorted it out hope this helps,
    Cheers Terry
