What can I do? I normally type very fast but since the Gemstone blue requires you to push down on each key really hard, I find random letters being dropped even though I pressed all the right keys. What can I do about this? Can I swap out the keyboard for a better one? Will it loosen up with time?

I hate notebook keyboards and I also hated this one. But I got used to it. You'll get use to it as well.

This is ridiculous, it's a new laptop, it shouldn't be dropping random characters. It just can't keep up with the speed I type at, it's like it's lagging behind my fingers. I normally type over 100 WPM, now it's more like 50.

Ok, kbd lag is not normal thing, and most probably - it's not laptop's fault but the OS. Check the keyboard settings maybe you can modify the typing rate or something..?

I'm also finding the occasional dropped letter on my 6920G, but I think I just need to adapt my typing style again.
Plus, I'm upset that my favourite Shift key - the left one - got downsized big time.

Can't see any options for it in keyboard options.

Is there any way to swap out the keyboard alogether?

    Hello guys,

This is my first post here. I came across the forums searching for this exact problem.

I recently bought a 6920g and found out that no matter how fast or slow I typed, I would start getting dropped letters and spaces that would just not appear.

I don't know if the original poster here got the problem sorted but if you haven't and you're still having keyboard problems, uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers that come installed with the machine.

I did a little bit of experimentation and found out that the keyboard didn't drop so many keys when I had the touchpad disabled. I thought i'd see what happened if I completely removed the driver and lo and behold I have a 100% accurate keyboard with absolutely no dropped letters at all.

Give it a try and see if that helps you.

I'm really having a hard time understanding why everyone hates the gemstone blue's key board. I have no problems with it lol. I don't know but I guess its just me lol.

You probably don't type 110WPM like I do. I am quite hyper.

In Vista? Where? I can only change the cursor blink rate which doesn't do much... Seems to make it slightly more managable but not much.

Is there any way I can replace the keyboard altogether?

Also I find it worse in Trillian and Firefox, anyway to adjust the keyboard settings there?

Does anyone know if maybe there's a thin keyboard I could place on top of my current one that would work better? Or a replacement keybed?

you might try replacing the SYNAPTICS drivers with a DRIVER for an APLS TouchPad for your OS....

if the synaptics is the cause of the problem,,, but i tend to think it may just be the lack of key response in your case due to your fast typing??

just something to try if you get desperate

I'm glad there's someone else experiencing this.

It's kind of annoying but I think It's mostly just bad typing on my part. I feel like if you just don't hit the keys in the right area, they sometimes don't go off. It's weird. Also if I concentrate a bit more on typing I feel like I do better.

i can understand your feelings... i have the same kind of issues w/ my keyboard (different model),, but it's just a matter of getting accustomed to using the new keyboard,, and like you said, CONCENTRATION helps!
