I am running Windows Vista Business 32-bit on the TM8103WLMi and I have an odd problem regarding the LCD "disconnecting".

So here's the story, I go into power options and set the lid actions. If the lid is closed it is set to do nothing. Now you know how some Acer models they have a small switch where a certain part of the LCD bezel presses it, the screen turns off, well when I press that switch or close the LCD lid, Vista makes a sound which is the same as unplugging a USB device or any device. When I let go of the switch or open the LCD, the "hardware connect" sound is played.

Then Windows is attempting to display whatever on the LCD (programs, windows, etc). But it struggles, flickers on and off, then stabilizes.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of an issue similar to this or know of a way to resolve it.

My laptop makes the connect and disconnect noises but I've never had any problems with it.

    I have solved the problem.

Apparently the disconnect/reconnect sounds that occur when you turn off the LCD are caused by the ATI Mobility Radeon X700 Vista drivers provided by Acer.

I'm guessing that Acer just didn't do a good job of testing them or probably just modified basic reference drivers from ATI.

To fix the problem I used DriverHeaven's Mobility Modder and modified the current ATI Radeon X700 Vista drivers available on ATI's website and installed those drivers. Now I don't get the disconnect sounds or unstable flickering caused by Acer's stock drivers.
