How are you lifting up your display or lowering it? Try to do either in the middle and not lift it up on either side of the display. When I close my display on my Acer it locks down and there is a ever so slight gap on the right side vs. the left but it's nothing to be concerned about. I unlock the tab in the middle and raise the lid by pushing in the middle to the position I want to view the screen (not on either side).

Can't answer your second question, I believe that you're not really suppose to put any weight or pressure on the lid of any laptop. If you put weight on it for whatever reason then you're asking for your screen to be cracked. When I travel with it for example it goes in my backpack and the area where the laptop is stored there is nothing else there at all. All the other stuff is stored elsewhere in other storage pockets in my backpack.

I have the same problem; the right hand side of the LCD is higher than the left side when closed. I always lift the screen from the middle though, so I guess it comes from the factory like this.
