I interested in getting an Acer WM2020 series laptop, and am in need of some advice from someone who has used one.

I have noticed that these models have a built in sub-woofer in addition to the normal 2 speakers. I had an Acer Travelmate a few years ago, and the built in speakers were pretty awful.

I would like to know is the sound produced using the additional sub-woofer is much better or not. Is it just a marketing gimmick or do they make a big difference. I'm not expecting miracles from it, but there are occasions where it will be inconvient to use headphones.

One of the reasons I’m looking at these laptops is the inclusion of the sub-woofer. If the internal speakers are considerably better than other laptops, that would be a big plus for me. If they sound the same as other laptops, or just a litlle bit better,
then I’d propably end up going for the Ferarri 3200 instead, and lugging around some external speakers.

Unfortunately, there is not an Acer dealer anywhere near where I leave, otherwise I could hear for myself what it would be like.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly speaking there is noway you can put an internal subwoofer and that even on a laptop and expect a miracle performance. That is just not realistic. Yes the sound is alot better than the regular line of laptop speaker but i recommend you (as any sane person would) to buy a nice speaker system. There are alot of them out there with sub woofers and are pretty cheap.

Personally i bought the ferrari 3200, as the performance of both the laptops are pretty even. While the 2020 offers a .4" bigger screen, nothing beats the scarlet red color and the Ferrari looks [ ;)] . The 3200 is made from better materials and honestly stands out from the huge masses of laptops out there. The battery life i have to agree might be an issue, but the 3200 does promise the stated 3 hrs provided you dont over use it.

If speakers are what u base your decisions on, then i suggest you get an external speaker system for a better audio experience.[ :)]

Thanks a lot rhue. I was sceptical about getting good sound from laptop speakers, but thought best to ask. Hope springs eternal!

Looks like it's the Ferarri and external speakers then.
