Back when I used Windows XP, my Acer Aspire 5002WLMi had a program called Acer eManager, and in it it had an option where you can have the fan always enabled or not. Basically: 1) Have the fan on all the time, or 2) Have the fan on when it is only needed.

Now when I went to Windows Vista, Acer eManager causes a BSOD, so I cannot access the page to toggle the fan, either way I have no idea if that will work since its for XP only.

Does anyone know of a program to keep the fan always running? I prefer to have it running because once the CPU is undervolted and fan always on, my temperature is only 40C, and I prefer my laptop that way.

Also I know that SpeedFan does not work on Acer laptops.

You can download NHC to do the same thing for Vista.

Just to let you know, Acer has updated their drivers/software page so there should be a Vista ready version of ePM that won't cause a BSOD on your notebook.

My notebook never came with an ePowerManagement utility. Its because you can't really set speeds with Turions, its wither 800MHz or 1.6GHz. So Acer lets Windows control the speed, which I think is a good thing.

Also on the driver page for my notebook there is nothing about ePM or eManager. I think this notebook is too old (in Acer's eyes) to use the new Empowering Technology stuff and eManager is the older version of that.

So you are saying that NHC would be able to control the fans? Won't an ACPI driver written for NHC be needed? Cause I have never seen one before.

Why don't you AMD guys just forget about NHC and just use RMClock. IMHO it works great with AMDs as it was more designed for them than Intels.

Also you can forget about controlling fans in NHC or speedfan as these applications never seem to work with acers. I cannot even control my 5102's fan with any of them so the likelihood of your older model ever working is very remote(even my older travelmate doesn't work :( )

Vestige apparently acer does support vista being on your notebook however they don't seem to provide any vista version of emanager etc as those programs are no longer used by the new acers and your notebook can't use any of the new empowering framework applications so I guess you will have to do without them. Acer doesn't seem to provide much vista drivers for your model which is strange, I hope you have been able to locate suitable drivers.

I see the version you are talking about for the 5500 series but that emanager is for another series that uses a Pentium M and not a Turion they don't even use the same chipset or motherboard, therefore they are completely different which is a problem when it comes to emanager. Acer has advised me in the past to never use acer software that wasn't designed for your specific notebook but I guess if vestige is desperate enough he could give it a try and see what happens :) .

Actually I thought that too :) But I'd found that there's vista version of eManager for ferrari4000 that's the same with 5500's.
    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/ferrari_4000/vista/Applications
So, I think "fan always enabled" is just a hidden option in BIOS, and has nothing to do with CPU and chipset.
I've just tried XP version of eManager in my 5562, which is not designed for. :p See no problem.
Actually I think most of acer apps are cross-model.

Well I just installed RMClock 2.25 on my laptop. I finally figured out how to set everything up properly in 2.0+. I used RMClock 1.8 before and it was so easy to use, but once 2.0 came along it became much more difficult. With RMClock I can get up to 45C before the fan starts kicking in. Although I wish I could set up the fan to be Always On so I can keep the temperature at a steady 40C.

Its really too bad that the Fan options are hidden in the BIOS and the only way to access it is to use eManager. I guess I'll just email Acer if one of the newer Empowering Technology programs would work, or at least a way to set the fan in the BIOS.

Great you figured out RMClock :)...perhaps to further control your temps you could try undervolting. AMD processors are usually very easy to undervolt and RMClock makes it quite easy. You should also be able to use different multipliers to control processor clock speed. Right now when cruising the web my turion x2 is locked at 1Ghz and undervolted, this dramatically helps controlling my temps on a hot days. As for fans I know what you mean about wanting it to run all the time, my 5102 fan runs constantly at low speed all the time, I like this because it helps to keep the air flowing :)

I have actually undervolted it back in Windows XP. Its just in Vista I'm not used to the new RMClock 2.25. My ML-30 is at 4.0x 0.875V and 8.0x 1.050V. But my temps still go up to 45C. Still trying to get it down to 40C.
