    I have a Acer Travelmate 4150.
When i boot, the laptop shuts down in about 15 secs
No issues with battery and hdd.
The fan works for 2 secs and then stops.
    Anyone faced a similar problem?

was that on battery or mains ?
is this a sudden thing (was it ok when you shut down and now nothing).
remove battery and power and hold down on button for 15 seconds. then try to re-boot.

EDIT: did you burn recovery DVD's ?

    Here's what I would try...

    1. Remove power cord, does it boot?
    2. Remove battery, use only power cord, does it boot?

Next, have you installed any recent hardware upgrades? New RAM? New Bluetooth Micro Adapter? New external HDD? Unplug anything attached (including mouse and keyboard) and try booting. Remove new RAM chip and revert to original, is it working now?

What is the last thing you see on the screen before it dies? Does it get past the BIOS? Does it get to the Windows Logo or Logon screen? If it gets to the Windows Logo can you press F8 just before Windows starts loading in order to get the Safe Mode menu? If you can get into the BIOS or to the Safe Mode menu does the laptop still die at those menus?

Also, if you have a copy of linux or windows installation disc can you boot off those via CD, does it still die while booting off those?

    Its not power issue.
battery is fine, gives 4 hrs backup.
    tried running on Adapter also.
    no new upgrades / modifications

last time i used it a week ago, everything was fine.
then when i powered up yesterday, windows started loading... then it suddenly went off.
i tried again but it would go off completely in 15 secs.

i can go in the BIOS setup. tried resetting to default settings.
(not much i can do in 15 secs)

now i have removed the hdd to avoid any damage.

the fan stops after 2 secs after i power up. i am not sure if it is normal.
i had a doubt about overheating, but 15 secs doesnt seem enough time for overheating.

Sometimes I have encountered this type of behavior due to a virus infection
