The power went out in my bedroom while my laptop was plugged in and now when I start it up, sometimes the screen goes blank with the laptop not responding to touch and the wifi button is still on even when it's disabled.

It's working alright now but I don't want to upgrade my hard drive if the current one is acting like this.

    Bump.

The laptop's hard drive works fine inside an external case. Could it be an OS problem? Also, I have an extra blank hard drive that I was going to use to upgrade my laptop. If I get a copy of Windows XP Home, how would I install it on the drive? Would the product key that came with my laptop work?

When you buy your laptop from an official vendor of Microsoft, you should have a copy of backup CD for Windows XP.

Use that CD when you install or reinstall your XP OS.

That's the thing, I didn't get one. I've read that I can call Acer and ask but I think they wouldn't send me an OS disc. Blah, brain has gone to mush now.
