my TM 8204 WLMi. I use the Winphlash utility to flash the BIOS and as soon as the process reaches the writing BIOS information (which is the last step) my computer got a stop error code and then followed by the BSOD. Has anyone been successful updating their BIOS from 3319 to 3517 on the 8204?

There's already been a topic posted on this. Somebody apparently got it to work using the MS-DOS method. I'm personally not convinced that the 3517 is a BIOS update for the TM8204. I still think it's for the newer TM8210's or something.

I was able to update my 8204 using the dos version of the phlash. I have not had any problems since upgrading to 3517. It is strange that this update will not work with the winphlash utility. Hopefully they will fix this in the next release of the bios.

The release notes for 3517 say that something was fixed for WinPhlash on Vista:
So... just a guess, but this seems to indicate that the flashing will work under Vista. I am going to try to update to 3516, then install Vista, then use WinPhlash on Vista for 3517. Just have to make a boot CD first in case things go awry ;)

I have the 8210 and it gave me the blue screen upon trying to update to 3517 with winphlash. However, 3516 updated fine under winphlash. What is the best/easiest method to create a bootable DOS CD to use with the DOS flasher?

There are several pages out there that walk you through the process of creating a bootable DOS CD. I think the easiest is to use the UBCD image to create one.
    http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
It is a collection of a lot of boot floppy images and includes a few dos based boot images as well. There are some very usefull utility programs on the CD as well. If you boot with one of the dos images with CD support you can burn the bios files on a second CD and switch CD's after the DOS boot is finished. I did have to use the /X option to ignore the xms memory check when running phlash as well.

I figured Acer would have released a new bios by now to fix the winphlash problem.
