Fixes/changes:
+ re-enabled Luxpad (MediaTouch) configuration
+ re-enabled red glow on record button (for 5920G)
+ retained Acer MediaTouch tab
+ added Chiralmotion and Momentum gestures
Installation:
1. Uninstall all current Synaptics drivers.
2. Restart
3. Install the modded driver.
4. Select "Install this anyway" when asked
5. Restart again
6. Make sure that under Device Manager, Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad shows version "10.2.4"

Tested on:
Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Acer Aspire 5920G
CAUTION:
Due to the nature of modded drivers, the driver will no longer be signed. I'm not sure how this will affect those with Vista 64-bit besides having to disable driver signing verification.
UPDATES:
2008-06-11: Rebuilt v10.2.4 with new gestures (derived from v11.1.1.1)
2008-04-02: Updated to the latest v10.2.4
2008-03-13: I've rebuilt the 64-bit version using the latest custom files I can get from Acer. Do try it out and let me know if it works![]()
Known issue(s):
Illumination settings not saved after reboot (occurs in unmodded driver too)

hey...i really apreciate your work but is any chance to mod the vista 64 bit drivers?...or tell us how did you do it...
thank you -
Discrucio Anima Notebook Enthusiast
PMed you, and copied my answer here:
1. Hi, I added the 3 Acer custom files under [SourceDisksFiles]
fx04.wav = 1
SynAcer.exe = 1
SynAcerCpl.cpl = 1
2. Replaced [SynMfg] with those taken from the Acer's driver
3. Added a whole chunk of Acer custom registry options at the bottom, replacing the OEM's settings. Also I added some older registry options to enable LuxPad settings page.
I'm trying to replicate what I did on the 64-bit version. But note that the driver will not be certified anymore so I'm not sure if that has a negative effect on your system. I've never tried running a 64-bit OS before so pardon me if I'm clueless about it.
UPDATE:
Here it is, let me know if it works at all
http://rapidshare.com/files/92086414/Synaptics_Driver_v10_1_8_Vista64_modded.exe.html
UPDATE 2:
Seems like there is an issue with the settings appearing to be reset after reboot. It's a bug with the resident utility not reading the registry settings properly (look for "FIXME" in the INF). Just go to the Control Panel and re-enable illumination if the button doesn't light up. Let's hope that Synaptics gets it fixed in the next release. -
Excellent work! Another way of updating drivers on my laptop =)
P.S>I'm gonna try to mod it myself looking at your solution, but if you post a tutorial here it'll even be better =) -
awesome, i even made it work with winamp by making the play/pause stop etc. buttons hot keys and then made winamp recognize the hotkeys
1 thing i gotta ask
is it possible for u to add customization to the acer arcade button? -
Discrucio Anima Notebook Enthusiast
That's the one with the stick figure? It's controlled by Launch Manager. Assuming that you did not modify MMKEYBD.CFG, go to Regedit:
Browse to this key:
HKLM\Software\Quanta\QtzgAcer\Settings\Buttons\My Aspire
Change Command to the path and name of the program you wish to run.
And change Command type to 1. -
thanks man, ur a really big help
for a while there i was pissed cuz synaptics wasnt compatible with winamp (i hate wmp) and i found the acer arcade button useless. now thanks to u, i can really use these buttons. lets give a bigto this guy folks

Glad to help

I'm just curious, does the red record light on the media touch panel ever turn on???

I have downloaded your modded driver from the first post, for Vista 32 bit and I can't see anywhere the illumination options. Plus, when I open the applet in control panel it sais Properties for Synaptics TouchPad v6.2, not LuxPad as in your attached photo.
-
I have installed this version and i didint see any change in control panel nor blinking red light !
If I press the Record button, nothing happens. Before i used to have NTI but now i have only Nero as the burning software. Any suggestions how i can configure Nero to it? -
Under HKLM\Software\Quanta\QtZgAcer\Settings\Buttons\Rec, you can add the path of the app of your choice by changing the "Command" string. -
thanks a lot. Will tweak it today.
-
Ok i have tried your registry tweak and worked.
One thing i have noticed after installing the new Modded driver for touchpad is that, now the Record light works!!!
But only when i "LOCK" my system. Weird. Is there a way this lights stays lit like other keys?? -
hey thanks a lot its the best synaptics driver for my 5920
but when i press play windows media player still starts its so damn annoying
edit: well, now it starts winamp (as i wanted) when i press play... but it doesnt actually PLAY the songs when i press play ^^
edit²: sometimes it plays the song and sometimes it just pauses and aint resumeable... weird crap :<
help please -
Discrucio Anima Notebook Enthusiast
HKLM\Software\Quanta\QtZgAcer\Settings\
Set "Play Button Bring Player" to 0. Close Launch Manager and open it again.
As for the problem resuming, I don't use Winamp so I don't know how it handles the Play button (which should be identical to desktop multimedia keyboards) but I suspect that it may be due to the sensitivity setting. Try tweaking that and let me know if it works for you. -
@Discrucio Anima
So is the light working fine for you? So should i follow the procedure below:
Try uninstalling all Synaptic drivers (via Programs and Features) before installing the modded version. Also make sure under Computer Management > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices, driver version for Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad is 10.1.8.0
I just blindly over installed on the old synaptics driver earlier and this is the result i see currently. Also there is no luxpad device settings for me. -
Yeah I figured out about that "play button bring player" registry entry before as well and set it to zero... and thanks for the tip it is a problem with my sensivity settings... when i move the bar to (got the german version of it so i dont know the exact terms) "soft sensivity" i need to push that button like really hard and when i move the bar to "hard sensivity" i just need to touch it really slightly and its pushd like 50 times ^^
im gonna mess around with uninstalling and installing it again maybe that sensivity stuff got fixxed after it
thank again and im reporting if it works
edit: hm its really confusing... after rebooting i can control my winamp with the media buttons perfectly about 20-30 minutes later play/pause doesnt work.... then i noticed i need to open the luxpad preferences again, close it and bam i can press play again and winamp acepts it... pause dont work though, after reboot everything works fine again for like 20-30 minutes btw. other buttons (stop, next song, prev. song, rec) dont make problems at all its just play/pause ^^ -

yeah these processes are always running and i found a fix at winamp.com for acer aspire 5672: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=242041&highlight=acer
since my 5920 got some other remote codes + extra buttons i customized the file available at that thread for aspire 5920
if anyone needs it:
http://rapidshare.com/files/99326981/MMKEYBD.rar.html
now i dont have any problem with play pause etc. anymore... just replace it at C:\Program Files\Launch Manager
but make a backup of ur old file before replacing it if it screws something
though it works fine on my computer and thanks to Discrucio Anima for your great support -
-
Done successfully on my 5920G. I'm using vista home premium (Spanish version) and your fixed 10.2.4 driver version and it's rocks!!!... (and in spanish as well).
Thank you Discrucio Anima...

Well I guess I shouldn't neglect updating this thread in NBR
Uploaded the latest build with new gestures. And my comments copy-pasted from Laptopvideo2go:

He guys, I might be interested in the drivers as well.. but for Windows XP (though I read WinXP aint an option yet since Vista's versions still has some issues)
I installed XP on my 5920 yesterday and Synaptics drivers from their official site dont really work with the mediatouch, hence all lights are on (including the red record one, which I'd never seen before hehe).
I'm missing the tab in the synaptics control panel saying "Mediatouch" as well.
It does mention LuxPad 6.5, but when I try to edit its settings it says it caused some weird memory error (rundll) and crashes -
can anybody reupload that site is down
-
is this what you seek
-
yes but all the links are down

Plz report!
PiEs: have b1 (x32 and x64) if needed, too -
thanks i'll let you know...
got 1 question...
how do i know if my touchpad can glow? -
Glow?
If you have 5920 than right buttons will be always on, except red circle at bottom -- this one can be turned off instantly or after certain amount of time
No way (besides physically) to disable blue buttons. -

Ey man, you rock
Gonna try x64, have x32 on other laptop and I like this "chiralmotion" stuff. Someone said that doesn't work with Firefox (or has problems). It works for me without problems. -
-
I might be out on a limb here - but can one of the buttons be modified to bring up the 'Jump to file...' dialog in Winamp?
-
Another mod to add to the .inf file, if it's not already there: the "HasBothButtonFeature" line. Just google for that, and you'll find Dell (yes, only Dell, since apparently they're special!) .inf files with that line.
What it does: it lets you set left+right == middle. -
Any idea if this will work with Aspire Blue Gem Cinedash panel?
I would be VERY happy if someone could help me configuring the Cinedash panel keys -
-
awesome mod to synaptics driver but i was wondering if it was possible to use smooth scrolling like what you get with macbooks for the two figure gesture. right now the scroll down option or page down option is the only options.
or because it waits till the fingers have been lifted off the trackpad to complete the gesture will it be impossible to do this? -
Great work, this even works on my 3 year old Asus laptop.
-
great, works for acer 5550
thank you very much -
BTW... Ive just installed this driver on my DELL XPS 1330 Vista 64 and its working fine...
good job
