    I don't know about question 1, but you can temporarily disable the Launch Manager from running by modifying your Startup.

    1. Start -> Run -> MSCONFIG -> OK
    2. Goto Start Tab
    3. Uncheck Launch Manager from list
    4. Apply & OK and you're done

    The next time the system loads, it shouldn't run the Launch Manager.

    Regarding the burning software, if you're not familiar with CD/DVD burning, you may want to get a program that is very easy to use. Roxio's CD Creator is a good place to start. If you want something a bit more advanced, try looking at Nero Burning Rom. This is the one I use. You can download a trial copy of Nero and if you like it, it's only like $30US.

    How long does the launch manager run at 99%? Generally, as obvious as the name is, it manages all of the programs launched at the beginning of startup. These programs, especially on a laptop, can be a significant amount. If the launch manager goes back to normal levels after a couple of minutes then its probably just loading up the 'normal' software (which is normally too much).
