    L1 1MB cache is with the Banias Centrino's but the new Dothan's and Sonoma's are L2 2MB..

The main difference is probrably the increased multitasking ability, and to run various programs at once, although not as high as the HyperThreading P4's, it's still somewhat noticable between 1MB and 2MB cache.

I believe the cache is a buffer that stores recently used commands/calls by the processor. The more it can store, the faster the system will perform since the CPU doesn't have to send requests for the same command/call out to system memory (slower) it will perform faster. Hope I got that right. [ ;)]
