I have a Acer 5100-3583 which I purchased on Ebay. There is a tiny line on the left side of the screen that goes all the way from top to bottom when the computer is on. It is not visible on the screen when the computer is off.
It is a 15.4 inch LCD screen. It is very noticable on a darker screen and almost not visible on a white screen.
Anyone have any ideas. It is probably the LCD display but I don't want to order one if it is not bad.
If anyone can point me in the right direction it will be greatly appreciated.

not same but similar -
What you are explaining sounds like a typical problem that some laptop LCDs get over time. Essentially what causes it is that a line of pixels gets stuck (dead) in one particular color. Usually this is caused by the LCD itself and not the mainboard or GPU. For instance my brother's HP has 2 very thin lines running from the top of his LCD to the bottom; one of them is red and the other one pink. Eventually as time goes on that line will get thicker and more noticeable.
Notice however that I said usually it is caused by the LCD but it could also be your GPU that is causing the problem. To check for this just plug in a regular external monitor into the VGA port and then send the desktop image to it and see if you get the same line. If that is the case then your GPU is what is causing the problem and not the LCD itself and there is no way to replace the GPU on the 5100 series without replacing the entire mainboard.
