Hello, I was wondering where the physical location of the wifi antenna was on my acer. I purchased a commercial grade antenna amplifer that will add 14 DB of gain. However i dont know where the antenna is to hook it into.

I Thought it was the white and black wires that run up each side of the screen, however the wires end up having continuity between the two via the tin / metalic paper on the inside of the back of the case.

    thanks

The wifi antennas are located on the top of the LCD panel. With acer signalup technology (which the 5100 series has) there should be 2 PIFA antennas.

Inorder to reach them you will have to take the LCD itself apart which I wouldn't advise you to do since LCD's can break very easily and are the most expensive part to replace. Notebook users typically don't try to use 3rd part antennas to gain signal strength, I would suggest moving closer to the access point or using a stronger wireless repeater. IMO it is too risky to try adding anything onto the PIFA antennas because it is difficult to reach them.

theres no issue but id just like to be able to connect to the network from my garage. but seeing as how this is my only computer, ill just run my internet cable to the back side of the house and hook everything up there. that seems easier and more user friendly for me :)
