The WD Scorpio Blue 320Gb drive in my 6920G is dying slowly and I want to replace it with a faster 7200rpm drive.

From what I can see, the Seagate Momentus SATAII 7200.4 500Gb is the best choice and actually draws *less* power (1.55W vs 2.5W read/write and 0.6W vs 0.85W idle) than my current HDD.

Has anyone else here upgraded their HDD to something better?

    Has anyone experienced heat problems?

I had considered milling out some extra vents in the casing round the HDD.

Newbie here btw, so hi all.

    Welcome to NBR!!!

I have the Seagate Momentus. I wouldn't say it's cooler since it runs about the same as my stock one at 46-48C and the speed is negligible on daily tasks. The loading time for stuff like Photoshop and games is noticeable though by a shortened time a couple of seconds depending on what it is that you're opening. Windows will have a slightly shorter load time. The Seagate is currently the best laptop HDD I believe. If you want something better, it'll have to be a SSD and those aren't worth the price per gigabyte in my opinion.
