    Hello all,

I am in the market for a new notebook. My recent 15.4" ASUS C90S kicked the bucket, and I have been looking at business grade laptops in the Elitebook 8440p/w and Thinkpad T410/s series to replace it. The prices will probably be out of my range, so I am looking for a cheaper solution.

My experience with Acer is the following:
My friend had an ACER 3810T which was quite nice, but perhaps a bit underpowered.
I own an Acer TravelMate 290 (first generation Pentium M + Centrino!) which still works and has been kind to me at 7 years of age.

I am looking to maintain this positive outlook of Acer through your suggestions. I have provided a condensed version of the "What should I buy form"

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?
    $800

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
14" or 13" also something less than 4.5lb preferably

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
    No

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Broswing, Matlab, TelNet, maybe StarCraft 2

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
    Both

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
    At most Starcraft 2

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
4-6 would be nice (while browsing and maybe movie watching)

    Screen:
I want something better than the stupid 1366x768 crapanels they keep making these days, but if that is not possible I can settle.

I would also prefer something with at least an i3 in it. I can have IGP or not; it matters not to me, but build quality and longevity is a must. I must note that I will be in Hong Kong for the next 2 months and I can purchase any models offered over there in addition to US models that I can purchase when I return.

    Thanks for your input.

Perhaps a TimelineX 3820TG / 4820TG? Are those any good and what are the differences if anyone might know. Thanks!

I bought the 3810TZ 9 months ago and have been very happy with it. Underpowered? Yes but I never notice it surfing the web or watching movies. Its battery life is still 6 hours, down from 8 and I've had no problems. Its very light but sturdy enough. I would buy from Acer again.
