    Hi,

make sure you have service pack 3 installed if you insist to run XP :D

You need to know what VGA hardware you have. If there are no drivers on Intel Website then you are lost.

    cheers,
i did shove sp3 on it, but that just made the dreaded
'high definition audio on audio bus' error appear even before i installed the realtek hd sound drivers ! (on sp2 that error only appears AFTER installation of realtek hd sound drivers, man i am having a hell of a job getting sound via hdmi, and failing)

apart from device manager, whats the best way to determine the exact vga hardware i have ?

Your laptop will have a more specific model number (if your notebook can come with more than 1 type).

    It will look like:

    Acer 5741a-xxxxxxxxxxxx

If you put that into google it will come up with the exact shipping config of your laptop.

Aunt Google tells me, this has an i3 core CPU. With IGP: Intel HD graphics.
