I was looking through one of the newer PC gaming magazines and found a notebook that had a 8600m GTS video card (can't remember the name of it, as it was not a brand name).. I then tried an internet search but couldn't find any other news for it.. Then i happen to browse the online results of "futuremark's" ORB, and noticed that they had a selection for a 8600m GTS in there list of graphic cards.. So, i can only guess that a 8600m GTS & 8700m GTX will be on the way.. But most of all.. Perhaps the 8600m GTS will fit in the 5920G. :)

I very much doubt it- don't see any space between 8600M GT with 475MHz core and 8700M with 625MHz core. It's only 150MHz difference with the same core, so 8600M GTX would be what- 550MHz?
And what about 8700GTX- I don't think you can overclock this core much more it gets very hot even now.
There's no way nVidia is gonna design another core for this range of cards.
8800M is on the way and I suppose it's the only new one for us to see.

BTW why would you want 8600GTX with a core clock significantly lower than 8700 if you can overclock your 8600GT to almost-8700m GT freqs?

You can OC your 8600M GT to 8700M .Need BIOS Flash with some volt mod :D (I did it to my 5920 & Found heat is the biggest drawback  )

Do you think we (5920G owners) could possibly upgrade to either 8700m-GT or 8800m series in the future??!!

    It would be really cool

    And thankx for the news......

I wish... But it's not going to happen... It's not physicaly possible. The 8600m GT is a MXM Type II size. The 8700m GT is a MXM Type IV.

Also.. There's more to a GTS card than just clock speed over a GT card.. Just have to wait and see. :)

Like what? What else can you add? If even 8700M GT is 128bit with only some kind of memory bus-ring what can you expect from 8600M GTX- no higher clocks, no 256 bit memory.

I'd be very surprised to even see this card come up.

You can expect a higher fill rate, and memory bandwidth on the GTX series video card. Not just clock speed, although clock speed is important, it is not everything.

Here is a link to the 7800/7950 GTX mobile cards as they have a comparison chart.

I guess you don' understand sth. With the same core= the same number of unified shaders the fill rate depends only on the clocks. So either nVidia designs another core (and that’s nonsense) or raise freqs(= fill rates).
The only thing left provided we rule out new core and overclocking the current one is the memory (further raising the current core freqs seems impossible due to high temperatures caused by 80nm manufacturing process).
Do you expect 8600M GTX to have higher memory bandwidth than 8700M?
That would make 8600M GTX faster than 8700M GT.
This whole thing doesn't limply make sense for nVidia and is illogical from both economical and practical POV

    ----------------------

EDIT: OK the only chance of any M GTX hitting the market can be seen in recent information that nVidia is planning to refresh 8600/8800GTS desktop series in November. This will include new core N92/N98 in 65nm technology and basically nothing more.
So there is a chance that 8600M GT and 8700M GT will also be replaced by 65nm GPUs that would allow higher clocks and would remain cooler. Additionally 65nm process is cheaper than 80nm (not the implementation but the production itself) so it would make sense for nVidia to implement it even for cost reduction. If there is gonna be more room for overclocking or higher clocks by default is pure speculation.
Still you can be pretty sure the core ain't gonna offer nothing new in terms of performance and should run much cooler.

*Correction... It was a 8600m "GTS", and not a "GTX" i saw at the futuremark site.

    >There is also a 8600m GTS listed in the inf..

yes, a GTS 8600m look promising. If it is a type II MXM it should work in the 5920G.. And hopefully it is more than just a clock speed differance.. I would have to say the ram would have to be 3DDR, like the Asus notebook GT card, but since this a GTS, i'd would say that it is even going to be tweaked out farther.. Maybe the bus, who knows until it comes out and folks benckmark it. Either way, good news!!
