Some how my Acer E settings program for adjusting screen brightness and power manage has disappeared or got corrupted somehow during a crash. I can open the shell but then get the following error mesage.

Error message when open Acer Empoweringsettings.

I tried removing the program and re-installing them after downloading them from Acer web site but still get same error mesage. The framework shell comes up but no data.

Is there any way I can repair the settings program without having to do a full restore of the hard drive? I have a lot of pix on my hard drive that I would need to back up to do a full restore and hope to avoid wasting that time if possible. I doubt Acer tech will help me with this problem since they will say it is a software problem and my computer is over a 100 days old. Any ideas on how to fix this?

It's a suggestion but you can try to redownload the mscorlib.dll file and place it in the Windows folder required mentioned in the error. Sometimes I use Norton Windoctor to sniff out missing dll files on my computer and fix the missing files manually by downloading them into the correct folder. Try http://www.dll-files.com/ and search for mscorlib.dll.

Otherwise you can do a system restore session and go back to a period where the program was working before it wouldn't work if possible.

I couldn't find the right file so gave up and finally did the factory default restore from the hard drive. It worked and seemed easy. I kept my data files on D: drive so they are OK. I only re-installed those programs I really need on Windows since I run kubuntu Linux now most of the time from an external hard drive. I think the external is faster than the internal and Kubuntu seems to run better than Windoze too.
