    hi everyone....

im in a bit of a fix. i have an acer aspire 1692 WLmi with two partitions....one is 35 gb and the other 45...yesterday i dropped my laptop accidently after tripping over some wires... :( ....then i got it back on the table (which is not so high - maybe about a foot or a foot and a half)....i tried to play some music and i could not access my D: partition....all my music is on that partition...basically it was full of stuff....as i tried to access it i got some error about a cyclic redundancy check ....i tried looking at the properties of the partition and it showed me that there was no data on it..also if i try to access the partition nothing happens at all..nothing opens...and the name also got changed back to "local disk"....i really cant figure out what happened...if somebody knows anything about this effect and how to recover my data back please help me....i would appreciate it...

    thanks.....

Doesn't take much of a fall to kill a hard drive. A few thing you might want to try are re-seat the hard drive and memory. See if there are any diagnostic tools on the hard drive maker's website. Throw it in an external case see if you can get any data off that way. There are places you can send it if it is physically damaged, but that tends to be expensive. Good Luck.

Usuallu there is a screw or two to remove on the bottom or side and you slide the hard drive out. Check the literature that came with your laptop, there maybe something there or if you can get the service manual which I don't think Acer is too keen on handing out.
