I am hearing a loud sound from my Acer 5672WLMi.

I bought a new acer 5672WLMi Laptop in the U.S. and starting using it 2 months ago in South East Asia.

Today, after being on for an hour, it started making a very loud sound.

    Is this the fan?

    Is this common?

I have a chill pad underneath and also blow a standup fan on the lap top when I'm running it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

please be a bit more specific if you can. What area of the 5672 is it coming from?

Does it making a "grinding" noise? etc.

You need to be a bit more specific on this one please. If it is the fan check to see if any debris has gotten caught in the fan area of the 5672. To check this look @ my thermal replacement guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=77860

Take the screws off and look at the heatsink assembly. Power the PC on and see if the grinding noise is coming from the hard drive or the fan area. These are the only 2 spinning devices that would make noise by default.
