    Hi guys
I have and OLD Aspire 5100 (Yeah, I know what you're thinking, but it still runs fine). ;)

Anyway, the hook latches on the lid no longer automatically "spring back" when I close it.
The thing is, I can still feel the resistance of the spring, so I don't think anything is broken. I just think it's "gummed up" in there.
I can push the latch over with my fingers once it's closed and it wall stay latched..in other words it's not just flopping around, but "sort of" working)

Is there any way to lubricate it a little somehow, without trying to take the whole thing apart? (I'm afraid if I tried spraying anything in there, it may end up messing up the screen...and I don't even really know where the spring is hidden in there, if that's what needs "lubricating").

I know this is nit-picking to the tenth degree, just wondered if there was anything I could do about it other than put up with it.

I also know you guys think I'm probably crazy for worrying about such a silly thing on such an old laptop...but that's why they call me "the Nut" :D

    An update...never mind.
I just realized now the spring must have even broken, or fallen off.
No that big a deal, as I can still latch it shut.
But boy, I sure hope there isn't a chance that if the spring did in fact break or come detached, that is can't somehow fall down inside the thin screen and short out some of the electronics somewhere.

As you can see, even tough I've built my own desktops, I've never taken a laptop apart...just the thought of it horrifies me.
