I am looking to buy another faster graphics card for my Aspire 6920G.
I had a 9600M GS a few years back which lasted for 2 years before giving up.
On flea-bay there only seems to be
a new rev C1 (faster), DDR3 for about £300![]()
![]()
rev A1(slower), DDR3 for about £70
rev C1((faster), DDR2 for about £70
The ads and a review on here somewhere say the C1 is the one to get as it is faster and more clockable than the A1.
But what about the A1, DDR3 against the C1, DDR2?
Anyone have any figures on this?
I know the 9600M GS I had was DDR3 and was much faster than the almost similar 9500M GS that I have in the laptop now and I assume that was because of DDR3 to DDR2

DDR3 version of 9600M GT will be significantly faster than DDR2 regardless of the revision of either of those.
You can use notebokcheck's 9600M GT page, choose details of each score and see the specs of a notebook that scored it.
While specs aren't identical and more expensive notebooks tend to use both better CPUs and DDR3- which certainly helps- you can choose a game that is known not to be CPU dependent as a basis for your comparison.
3DMark seems to be a good one to use as it tends not to be CPU dependent. I won't copy the results here but it gives a good overview of what the difference is.
To sum it up- definitely go for DDR3 version regardless of its revision. -
@downloads: hi, thanks for info. i thought as much.
i will double check with sellers though as its not easy to tell from a photo whether the card has DDR3 or DDR2?
the £300 card is misleading as the main photo shows a A1 and the enlarged view shows C1????
and do i really want to spend £300 on a 4 year old laptop anyway... -
You'll be better with Toshiba HD4650 DDR3, but it requires some soldering.

Either way get the DDR3 card it will be faster regardless.

that card is $180 on flea-bay
also, I am not sure about an ATI card as it may not work with one of my OS's (cant say too much but the logo is a fruit and a large cat) -
As long as it's legit we at NBR have no problems with it.
